I build custom websites, tools and interactive experiences using core web technologies: HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP. These are the languages the web is built on, and they're not going anywhere.
That's a deliberate choice. While the industry cycles through JavaScript frameworks every couple of years, the fundamentals stay stable. Code built on web standards is faster, more accessible, easier to maintain and doesn't come with an expiry date tied to someone else's roadmap.
This approach doesn't mean simple or static. I build directories, interactive maps, custom calculators, API integrations, 3D experiences, creative animations and complex interfaces. The difference is that they're built on a foundation you can rely on for years, not months.
Building on web standards also means accessibility comes naturally. Semantic HTML, keyboard navigation and screen reader support are part of the foundation, not bolted on as an afterthought. The result is code that works well for everyone, loads quickly and is straightforward for any developer to pick up in the future.

I'm Adam, a freelance web developer based in the UK. I've been building custom websites and web applications for over 15 years, and the core technologies I use today are the same ones I started with: HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP.
These technologies have matured into incredibly capable tools. Modern CSS can do things that used to require heavy JavaScript libraries. Vanilla JavaScript is faster and more powerful than ever. And PHP quietly runs the majority of the web. When you build on these foundations, you get something fast, reliable, accessible and easy for any developer to work with in the future.

Discovery
We talk through what you're building, who it's for and what it needs to do. I'll ask the right questions to make sure we're aligned before any code gets written.
Plan & quote
I'll put together a clear scope, recommend the right technical approach and give you a fixed quote. You'll know exactly what you're getting and what it'll cost before we start.
Build
I build in stages on a staging environment so you can see progress, test things and give feedback as we go. Nothing goes live until you're happy with it.
Launch & handover
Once live, I make sure everything is running smoothly and hand over clean, documented code. If you want ongoing support, I offer maintenance plans too.
Frequently asked questions
Why don't you use React or other JavaScript frameworks?
For the vast majority of websites and web applications, frameworks like React add complexity and dependency without a clear benefit. Modern HTML, CSS and JavaScript are incredibly capable on their own. The code I write is faster, lighter, easier to maintain and won't need rewriting when a framework falls out of favour. For projects that genuinely need a framework, I'll be upfront about that and recommend the right approach.
How much does bespoke web development cost?
It depends entirely on what you're building. A custom interactive tool or calculator might be a few hundred pounds. A full bespoke website is typically £750 upwards. I'll give you a clear, fixed quote after we've discussed your project so there are no surprises.
Can another developer maintain the code after you've built it?
Yes, and that's one of the advantages of building on web standards. Any competent developer can read and work with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP. I write clean, well-documented code specifically so you're never locked in to me as a single point of dependency.
What kind of software integrations do you build?
I build custom API integrations that connect your website to third-party systems like CRMs, recruitment platforms, estate agent software, accounting tools, payment gateways and more. Whether it's pulling property listings from your estate agent CRM, syncing job postings from your recruitment system or pushing form enquiries into your sales pipeline, I build reliable, well-documented integrations that keep your systems talking to each other.
Can you integrate bespoke work with WordPress or WooCommerce?
Yes. A lot of my bespoke work sits within WordPress sites. Custom interactive features, complex layouts, directories, calculators and dynamic tools can all be built as part of a WordPress theme or plugin. I also offer dedicated WordPress development and e-commerce development.
Do you design as well as develop?
Yes. I handle both design and development for most of my projects. If you already have designs from a designer or agency, I'm equally happy to build from those. Either way works.
Will my site be accessible and SEO-friendly?
Yes. Semantic HTML, proper heading structure, keyboard navigation, ARIA attributes and clean markup are all part of how I build by default. Good accessibility and good SEO start with well-written code, and that's baked into everything I do. I also offer dedicated SEO and performance work.
How long does a bespoke project take?
It varies with scope. A standalone interactive tool might take a week or two. A full custom website is typically four to eight weeks. I'll give you a realistic timeline during the quoting stage and keep you updated throughout.
Can you work with an existing site rather than building from scratch?
Yes, often. I regularly add custom features, interactive components or bespoke sections to existing sites without rebuilding the whole thing. If you have something specific you want to add or improve, get in touch and I'll take a look at what's involved.
